Sally’s hair was greasy, and it seemed as though she hadn’t bathed for a few days. Her clothes were a little tattered and didn’t seem clean.

That was the counselor’s first impression at kids’ camp a few years ago. The counselor was a mom of some teenagers. She knew it would be a long week but didn’t think it would be as emotional as it turned out to be.

Over the course of the few days of camp, she took advantage of the opportunity to be “mom” for the girls in her cabin. She wouldn’t admit to a favorite, but she did give Sally some extra attention because the greasy hair, clothes, etc. indicated that she deserved it. While it was impossible to know the full story of Sally’s life, the counselor knew some things were missing for this little girl. She couldn’t fix much, but she knew it was important to make an impact in the short time she had.

Brushing Sally’s clean hair was one of the memories the mom shared with her family when she got home. There were tears in her eyes as she told the story, tears in her eyes as she said goodbye and hugged Sally on the last day of camp. It was heartbreaking, but she waved knowing she had done all she could.

The impact of those few days was not forgotten by the counselor, and we can only assume Sally remembers those days as well.

While we are able to impact hundreds of lives a year, our opportunities are limited to our resources. These are great days for the camp and we are excited about how God continues to provide! Please consider sharing of your time (volunteer for a week of camp), talent (participate in a work day), and treasure (make a generous gift).

Thank you for you ongoing support and prayers!
